Fleece from the Herdwicks is multi-coloured and can produce a range of products without the need for adding dyes. It is possible to make rugs from washed woven wool – these are long-lasting and wear well. Rugs made in this way cost less than those in which the wool is spun into yarn, and provide real benefit and utility from the natural resource of the sheeps fleece.
